A day with Pope Francis!

Today, we had the wonderful and unexpected opportunity to attend Mass with the Holy Father in St. Peter's Square for the Feast Day of Ss. Peter and Paul!  We arrived in time to have an excellent view and, at the end of Mass, were able to see the Holy Father from a close distance when he drove by and blessed us.  It was very moving to be present with the Church in this liturgy in which the Holy Father blessed the Pallia of the new Metropolitan Archbishops.

    I have so many, many good memories of the first summer program in 2013. I hope you have at least as much fun and inspiration and relationship building as we did. Praying for all of you and look forward to reading all of your posts. A special hello to Sr. Mary Hanah!

Day 18 Old places, new discoveries

We began the day by visiting old places in a new way. Sister Mary Agnes, Sister Mary Hanah, and Sister Mary Maximilian went to Saint Peter's Basilica first thing in the morning in order to go up to the cupola. The climb up was more of a challenge than usual: there were no lights to guide their steps, so the Sisters went on in the dark. This sounds like a spiritual lesson, and maybe it was... and they made it to the top. Day 11 St. Paul Outside the Walls

Day 11 St. Paul Outside the Walls "Outside the Walls"  Today after Mass at Sant' Andrea della Valle, we journeyed outside the ancient walls of Rome to visit the tomb of St. Paul. Day 21 Vatican Gardens and Scavi Tour

Day 21 Nothing like putting in two spectacular things in one day! We spent the morning literally let loose in the Vatican Gardens. Sister Mary Angela (temporarily) traded in her passport and received an official Vatican Gardens badge, so we could pretty much go anywhere. Beautiful trees, hedges, paths, flowers, statues, grottoes...and after an entire morning there, we were only about halfway through it!
